I decided to make a sword based on a French long sword. I used scrap 2x4s for both the blade and the handle. I originally made the blade seperate from the handle but I did not account for the weight of the blade. I ended up adding just a small piece of 2x4 across the blade and used the bottom of the blade as part of the handle. To make my sword not look like it was made out of wood I dipped sketching paper in a mixture of water and layed it over the wood and spray painted the blade silver and the handle gold. If I were to redo this project I would use a lighter wood or some other material to make it light-weight and thinner.
