For our weapon project, I was assigned the bloody knife project. Unfortunately, this was later changed to be a retractable knife with the added complication of needing to be a flip blade or a switchblade knife. I researched various locking mechanisms of different types of knives and found that most locking mechanisms that allow knives to open and stay open prevented them from being retractable. There are very few prop knives that fall into these two classifications, so in the end I decided to design a mechanism rather than copy someone else’s.
